Notes on Performances of Statistical Interest
for the 2001 Race
Women:
- Age Group Records for 40-49 (Susan Faulkner-3:34:06), and 50-59 (Gail
Koepf-3:38:10) age classes
2nd fastest ever for 20-29 (Jane LeBlond-3:22:55)
- Fastest time ever for places 2-15
- 13 of 100 fastest ever times
- Jane LeBlond became the fourth 3-time winner, and the second winner of
three consecutive races
- Jane Lanford became the oldest runner with a top-50 time (3:44:55 at age
46)
- After the 1986 race, there were more men's performances under 3:00:00
(33x) than women's performances under 4:00:00 (32x); since that time, there
have been 83 additional women's times under 4:00:00, but only 13 more men's
times under 3:00.
- The equivalent standards now, in round numbers, are 3:00:00
for men, and 3:45:00 for women. 25 Women have broken 3:45; 24 men have broken
3:00:00
Men:
- Kevin Brinegar became only the second man to win more than two consecutive
races (Stan Justice won four in a row from 1984 through 1987).
- Kevin Brinegar posted his fourth championship.
Only five men have won two races, and Kevin is the only man besides Stan & Bob
(6 each) to win more than two races.
- Age-class records for 50-59 (Jim Decur-3:18:52) and 60-69 (Dieter
Dolif-3:56:41) age classes.
- In the 12 races from 1978 through 1989 3:00:00 was broken 33 times; in the 11 races since
1989, 3:00:00 has been broken only 9 times
- Kevin Brinegar, who ran under 3 hours for the third time, is one of only four
men to have broken 3:00:00 more than once; the others are Bob Murphy (9x),
Stan Justice (8x), and Everett Rubel (4x). A total of 24 men have broken
3 hours.
